Who Say's Mom's Can't Make Pinewood Derby Cars?

Last Tuesday was Dillon's Pinewood Derby for scouts and let me tell you, it was quite the event! Dustin had planned on helping Dillon make the car, but we couldn't find anyone who had the right kind of saw to borrow. So, at pretty much the last minute, on Monday afternoon, Brother Norr from our ward helped Dillon cut it out at his house. Dustin and Dillon had already drawn it on the wood block. My friend Lisa needed to finish her son Clays' car also, so she came over on Tuesday morning and we worked on them all day. I even had to make some minor adjustments with a steak knife. :0) Dillon wanted his car to be named the "American Eagle", so I got online, found a picture of an eagle, shrunk it down, printed it out, and Modge Podged it to the car. I also printed out the words "American Eagle" and Modge Podged them to the hood of the car. Yes, I used Modge Podge again. Some of you may remember that I did the same thing for the Raingutter Regata boat that we made for scouts. That stuff works on everything! After getting the cars looking all fancy, we had to put the wheels on, and then make sure they weighed the right amount. Most of you probably know that the cars can only weigh 5 oz. When I weighed our car in, it only weighed 4 oz., so, me being the crafty person I am, ha-ha, hot glued some weights to the bottom of the car, to bring it up to the 5 oz. Pretty funny. Anyways, I was pretty nervous for Dillon, and was just hoping that the car would at least make it down the track. To mine and Dillon's surprise, the car did pretty dang good! Dillon ended up taking second place in his pack. Lisa and Clay also did awesome! Clay took 3rd place over all! So, like I said, Who say's Mom's can't make Pinewood Derby Cars? Definitely not me!!!!

There we are, winning! Yay!

The awards....

I forgot to mention that Dillon's car got the "Presidential" Award,
and Clay's got the "Fiercest" award, along with the speed awards.

My Little Ballerina's

Last Monday was Parent's Day at dance. Ashlynn and Samantha have both improved a ton since the last one. Stephanie Baker is their teacher, and she is wonderful. She does such a good job of teaching them basic steps, and working on their coordination, and flexibility. She is also very good at teaching the kids to be respectful and polite. Stephanie Baker's dance lessons are just one of the many opportunities we have been presented with since we have lived here. Stephanie is so awesome, she allows me to make her little girl hairbows in exchange for the girl's dance lessons.... not to mention she just lives down the street from us. It works out so perfect.

The Drive-IN

The Friday before last we were invited to go to the Drive-In by our friends, the Marchants. It was their daughter Morgan's birthday. We got to see "Monsters vs. Aliens" . We all loved it! What a cute movie... There were also some other good friends there, the Fabrizio's, the Berges's, and the Sargents. The kids and I love going to the Drive-In... great fun.... and cheap too, you can't get better than that!
